‘BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE’

“One language sets you in a corridor for life.

Two languages open every door along the way.”   (Frank Smith)

If you want to make a difference to the lives of young learners by inspiring them through the study of a second language, come and join a like-minded faculty of language specialists and enthusiasts.  Ideally, we would look to appoint a colleague who could teach both French and Spanish at KS3 and KS4 but a Spanish specialist is desirable for GCSE teaching and to help develop the Spanish curriculum and extra-curricular activity.

The school’s motto is “Be the best you can be” and the MFL faculty believe in this and promote this ethos in their practice of teaching both Spanish and French.  Our GCSE results are excellent in both Spanish and French and the number of students selecting languages at GCSEs have increased significantly over the last few years.  We have a small team of experienced staff who work well together.  As well as a programme of intervention and supported study, the team offers a large number of enrichment opportunities, including academic visits, speaking competitions and overseas trips.

The post would be suitable for a new entrant to the profession or a colleague seeking to broaden their experience.  Claydon High School provides an excellent support programme for newly appointed staff.  Visitors and prospective colleagues often comment on the warm welcome they receive here and as a staff we work collaboratively together and support one another.

Claydon High School is a popular, oversubscribed and friendly comprehensive school on the outskirts of Ipswich; we are situated close to the A14 with easy transport links across Suffolk and into Essex.  We are a small school with 776 students on roll which means that there is a close working relationship with all the staff and students in the school.  As part of the Penrose Learning Trust we also work closely with other schools within the MAT to achieve “excellence through collaboration”.

We look forward to hearing from you.
