Headteacher's Weekly Update
A Happy New Year to our website readers!
2019 has begun very busily here. As Year 11s prepare for practical assessments in Drama, Music, Food, Art and PE they are undertaking further written exams in the hall preparing for the final exams which begin in just 14 weeks. Lots of revision is taking place during lessons and after school and in February, we head away for our annual Boot Camp where we have an intensive two days of revision and preparation for those all important exams. There are, however, a lot of other activities which are undertaken to support our young people in keeping well, physically and mentally, as they enter this stressful time as well as having fun and making some lovely memories of their final full term at Claydon High School.
Year 9 students are just beginning their GCSE journey by finding out more about their GCSE option choices, enjoying some “taster” lessons and considering some future career options. We hold an information evening for students and their parents and carers to find out more about the whole process, about each subject and also the key aspects to consider when making their choices.
Elsewhere we are encouraging our students to think creatively in supporting this term’s charity as we welcome Elmer to Claydon High School. We are taking part in the “Big Elmer Parade” to support St Elizabeth Hospice and we are asking students to design our very own Elmer who will then be decorated and you should look out for him at the Suffolk Show and during the summer. We shall be holding a non-uniform day later this term to support this worthwhile local charity which has already, and will continue to, support members of the school community and their families.
We hope that 2019 brings all of our students, families and the wider communities happiness and success.
