Headteacher's Weekly Update
There is certainly a nip in the air which is making it feel more seasonal and this week we really have embraced the festive spirit at Claydon High School. Our “Countdown to Christmas” concert featured a wealth of musical talent, composers, vocalists and musicians who entertained a packed hall with a range of classical and modern pieces, performed their own compositions or joined in ensemble performances. Hot chocolate and mince pies were served in the interval and it certainly began our countdown to the last week of term.
We welcomed back our former Year 11 to celebrate their GCSE success at our Annual Prize Award Evening and it was wonderful to see them all and hear how well they are getting on with the next step in their futures. Ex-Claydon High School student, now Team GB marathon runner Helen Davies spoke to the students about overcoming challenges and striving for success, likening life to a long race; she inspired all of us who were present. GCSE certificates were issued and awards for each subject given out as well as some recognition of significant individual achievements. We wish all of the students well in the future.
Tomorrow, on Christmas jumper day, we collect in all of the hampers and donations which have come in from students and staff across the school to support the IHAG Chapman Centre in Ipswich. Look out for photos of the wonderful creations and a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to these. I have had some sneak previews as I am out and about in the school and I am so impressed with the thoughtfulness and generosity of our young people thinking about those who are having a difficult time at this point in the year.
Please remember that Tuesday 18th December is the last day of term and we finish at the usual time; it is a non-uniform day for those who have donated an item or £1 for a hamper or charity. We will be taking some time to celebrate the successes of the term with our students. We return to school on Thursday 3rd January 2019 in week one of the timetable.
Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone in the school community who has contributed to this being such a great start to the academic year and we look forward to continuing this in 2019. I wish everyone a very healthy and restful holiday, a very Merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2019.
