Headteacher's Update
We have had another busy week at Claydon High School and the Arts Faculty have been the stars of the show; Ms Jenkins and her team.
The students stunned us in “Schools Will Rock You”, with acting, singing and dancing on show, but many others involved front of house, back stage and in supporting roles. Anyone who attended will tell you that the quality was exceptional and the atmosphere electric as the audience joined in stamping their feet and clapping their hands to many of the Queen favourites which featured. Thanks to everyone who supported this in any way.
The local community got to enjoy a selection of these songs at the annual tea party, alongside some Shakespearean drama courtesy of the English Faculty. Guests were served sandwiches and cakes made by our year 9 students who will take Food and Nutrition for GCSE starting in September. Feedback was that the baking was delicious!
Year 5 students from many local primary schools joined us for an Arts Day and took part in dance, drama, music and creating artwork, all based around the theme of “The Sea”; hundreds of young people singing and dancing in unison was fabulous! A huge thanks to our Year 9 Arts Leaders who had been coached through delivering their sessions by the teaching team and then led the day for our younger students; we have some excellent teachers for the future there.
We hosted our annual sports award evening to honour sporting excellence, strong team work and the spirit of competition. The announcement of our School Games Gold Award being maintained symbolises the high level of engagement of our young people with sporting activities and the range of sports represented in the awards, indicates the wide opportunities offered to students here. The Matt Jack Cup was presented for the first time to reward improvement in sports and the whole evening was a fitting tribute to a very special teacher and colleague for whom the sense of loss is still significant but whose legacy lives in each and every student he coached and encouraged through their shared love of sport.
