History KS3 & KS4

Head of Faculty: Mr G Cox

Co-Second in Faculty: Miss L Fowler and Miss O Doran

In History we allow students to gain an understanding of the world around them through an enjoyable, challenging and relevant learning experience. In History we look to give students the opportunity to understand that the learning of History contributes to the development of their personal interests, values and qualities. We use a range of learning and teaching activities including group work, debate, source work, ICT, field work and role play. Using these activities students will gain empathy and an understanding of cause, consequence and significance in their investigation of the past and how this fits with the present and future.
History is taught alongside the other Humanities subjects in specialist teaching rooms with access to ICT.

Key Stage 4

What will I learn?

History is a highly popular subject at GCSE level and aims to develop a range of skills whilst investigating historical events, people, changes and issues. Students will develop understanding of how the past has been represented and interpreted; use historical sources critically in their historical context; draw conclusions and appreciate that these and other historical conclusions are liable to reassessment in the light of new or reinterpreted evidence.
If students want to achieve the EBacc, they will need to study History with a language.

Where will this take me?

This course provides excellent preparation if students are interested in studying History or a variety of subjects at a higher level. The course reinforces many skills used in English and will increase students’ ability to discuss important issues and difficult ideas. A good thing about History is that it does not tie you down to a specific job or career. You could enter television or radio, pursue a career in journalism, law or banking, work for the Civil Service or become a teacher.
