How will I be assessed?
Students are formatively assessed by their teacher each lesson as well as self and peer assessment. This is in three main areas – Devising, Performing & Evaluating. Every term, students will receive a formal grade based on their class work and homework. A practical examination is taken each year at Key Stage 3 during the summer term.
What will I study?
Year 7:
- Introduction to Drama and Characterisation
- Studying a play text: Ernie’s’ Incredible Illucinations by Alan Ayckbourne
- Silent Movies and Melodrama
Year 8:
- Human and Civil Rights
- Studying a play text: Blood Brothers by Willy Russell
- Commedia dell’Arte
Year 9:
- Devising / Issue Based Drama
- Studying a play text: Too Much Punch for Judy by Mark Wheeler
- Brecht and social issues
Key Stage 4
What will I study?
We follow the Edexcel-Pearson GCSE Drama Syllabus.
Component 1: Devising - 40% of the qualification – 60 marks.
Internally assessed and externally moderated.
Content overview:
- Create, develop & perform a devised piece from a stimulus
- Analyse and evaluate the devising process and performance
Component 2: Performance from Text - 20% of the qualification - 48 marks
Externally assessed.
Content overview:
- Students will perform in two key extracts from a performance text chosen by the teacher
Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice (*Paper code: 1DR0/03)
Written examination: 1 hour 45 minutes 40% of the qualification – 60 marks.
Externally assessed.
Extra-curricular
Opportunities exist for students to take part in Drama workshops and rehearsals each week, culminating in informal performances.
